Nestopia UE Version History: From 1.40 to 2.0.0
The verifiable release record of Nestopia UE (Undead Edition), from Martin Freij’s original Nestopia to the cross-platform 2.0.0 release. This page lists only facts that can be checked against upstream releases. Where upstream published no release notes for a version, this page says so instead of inventing them. This is an unofficial fan resource; the project itself lives on GitHub (0ldsk00l/nestopia), and its emulation core is maintained upstream in the jgemu project on GitLab.
v2.0.0 — 13 September 2026 (latest, cross-platform line)
A copy of the cross-platform builds available at jgemu/jgbuilds (tag nestopia-2.0.0), built on the new QTea/Jolly Good build system with the same interface approach on every platform. This release brought the first official macOS Apple Silicon binary and the first official 64-bit Windows build in project history. No Intel-Mac build is listed, and there is no Android or iOS build.

v1.99.0 — 13 September 2026 (legacy win32 line)
Released on the same day as v2.0.0. A legacy win32 release with changes backported from version 2.0.0, for users on 32-bit Windows and older setups built around the win32 program. Windows 32-bit only; there is no 64-bit, macOS or Linux build under this version.

v1.53.2 — 9 August 2025
A Windows 32-bit (win32) release. The 1.53.x standalone line shipped a Windows binary only: Linux and BSD meant building from source (FLTK 1.3+ and SDL2), and there was no macOS binary and no 64-bit build in this line.

The first release of the 1.53.x line, on the same platform footing as the rest of that line: a Windows 32-bit standalone binary, with Linux/BSD supported by building from source.
v1.52.1 — 30 March 2024, and the 1.52 line
Version 1.52.1 was released on 30 March 2024. For the 1.52 line as a whole, the upstream changelog records two structural changes: the Linux graphical interface switched from GTK to FLTK, and the win32 sources were merged back into the main tree. Those are the verifiable 1.52-line facts recorded here.
The original: Nestopia 1.40 — 2008
The original Nestopia was written by Martin Freij. Its final original release was version 1.40, in 2008. Everything after that point belongs to the fork, not to Freij’s original release series.
The UE fork — R. Danbrook (0ldsk00l)
Nestopia UE (Undead Edition) is the fork of the original Nestopia that continued the project after 1.40. The fork was initiated and is maintained by R. Danbrook (0ldsk00l) — not by Martin Freij. The standalone GUI builds are published from the 0ldsk00l/nestopia repository on GitHub, while, since 2024, the emulation core has been maintained upstream in the jgemu project on GitLab. Nestopia UE is open-source software distributed under GPL-2.0.
